Prince Ivan's frog bride reveals herself to be the princess Vasilisa the Wise at a feast given by his father, the Tsar. It seems Prince Ivan has not done as poor a job of finding a bride as it first appeared. Prince Ivan's frog bride has easily bested his brothers' wives at the Tsar's previous competitions. The extraordinary fineness of the bread and shirt she gave Ivan to present to the Tsar made her sister in laws' creations seem coarse and common. The Tsar's final test of the brides is a great feast, where he can see their beauty and social graces in person. Despite their good breeding and manners, the other two women seem graceless and ill mannered beside the legendary Vasilisa. The entire court marvels as she produces a lake filled with swans in the middle of the palace from her sleeve. Even the old Tsar leans on the edge of his throne! The scene is beautifully painted in bright, vivid colors with generous metallic accents. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (M. Ivanov), and village. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer. Impressive!
