A pair of mischievous imps carry an enchanted mirror heavenward to amuse themselves by distorting the goodness and beauty of angels into a reflection of hideousness. Unaware of the unearthly goings on overhead, best friends Kay and Gerda sit beneath heavy bouquets of roses, happily singing and playing. The Snow Queen gazes longingly through their window, jealous of the warmth and tenderness of the pair. Soon the wicked mirror will crack, and a splinter of cursed glass will freeze Kay's heart, making him the perfect companion for the Snow Queen. The scene is beautifully painted in rich, icy blues with sparkling golden accents. Mother of pearl, highly unusual in Mstera art, creates a striking illusion of a magic mirror. The scene is framed with a thick, feathery border accented with tiny silver blossoms, which is repeated on the sides. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the base with the title, artist's name, village, and date of completion. There is a hinge on the left, and the interior is red lacquer. It stands on four round legs. A sensational work by K. Bakhilin!--BOX1062
