The Sun, the Moon and Dawn (2005)from Palekh by Evgeniya NebogatovaDimensions: 3.75" x 3.00" x 3.38"(9.00 x 7.50 x 8.70 cm) Gallery Price: $ 1295.00 Internet Price: $ 1195.00 None currently available |
The unique style of Evgeniya Nebogatova lends itself beautifully to the neoclassical theme of this unusually shaped box. The personification of the dawn soars through a glowing red sky in a chariot drawn by a team of pale horses. Golden accents shimmer around her as the morning light kisses the countryside. The moon graces the flat rear of the piece, enthroned on a delicate crescent below and elegant canopy. She looks up as the sun calls out a greeting. Cherubs and other celestial beings guide her chariot drawn by fire breathing horses through the swirling clouds. Nebogatova's careful placement of metallic accents adds to the sense of wonder. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the artist's name, village, and date of completion. There is no hinge, and the interior is red lacquer. It rests on three round legs. A striking and fanciful work.--BOX1073
