Inside, a young girl pauses in her flower arrangement, perhaps calling out a greeting to the lad. Her protective mama steps between the pair, turning a kind eye towards a second maiden, who scowls as she sets down a samovar. Perhaps she has also taken a fancy to the young man, and is jealous. The scene is well painted in bold, crisp colors, shimmering with gold and silver. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the artist's name (O. Belova) and village. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer.It rests on three round legs. A delightful folk scene. --BOX1267
