Despite the best efforts of the court, Princess Never Smiles seems near tears. The performers watch desperately for any sign of mirth; whomever makes the princess smile will get half of the kingdom! But, alas, it seems that no amount of singing and dancing can lift her spirits. The scene is nicely painted in rich, vibrant colors, and framed by an intricate floral border which is repeated on the sides. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the artist's name (M. Dogadina) and village. There is no hinge, and the interior is red lacquer. The base of this piece is flush, and bears the Mstera archer. An enchanting work.--BOX1432
