A crowd of revelers gather around to bid farewell to Lady Maslenitsa at the end of her namesake festival. The straw effigy is the guest of honor at the festival marking the last days before Lent, and is burnt in a bonfire on the last day of the celebration in a tradition which echoes ancient Pagan rites welcoming spring before the somber contemplation of Lent. The rustic cottages peek over a hillside awash with melting snow as the first green of spring emerges. A thick tapestry of brilliantly colored flowers sparkling with delicate golden accents creates a luxurious frame for the scene. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's initials, and village. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer. It rests on four round legs.
