This large box features the charming favorite scene, "Morning in the Woods," based on the painting of the same name by Ivan Shishkin. A mother bear grumbles a reminder to be careful as her trio of cubs cavort atop a fallen tree. The brilliant light of dawn pierces the thick forest canopy to wash the scene with vibrant yellow and orange. The lacquer on the lid has thinned with age (more than usual for boxes at this age) revealing the texture of the paint beneath. The body of the box has a fewer signs of aging, and has a better shine to it. The box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (Supeimanova), and village, and on the underside of the lid with the date. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer. The base of this piece is flush.
