This traditional piece from Fedoskino artist Khasimova shows the prince looking his future bride - the frog. Of course, there is much more to this uplifting fairy tale, which you can read here.


The composition of the box has a quiet elegance to it, which is enhanced by the gold touches on the prince's hat and clothing. The very cute frog at the bottom, meanwhile, keeps the piece from being too serious! The box itself dates back to 1993 and is in great shape with no major flaws. The surface lacquer has thinned just a bit, but nothing out of the ordinary, and the box could stand proudly even in the best of collections. The box is made out of papier mache and sits on four small feet. It is signed at the bottom with the name of the artist, village and year (1993). A fine understated work which will only grow more special through the years.
