In this tiny casket, images of the Snow Maiden are shown all over the box. The top scene, which shows the girl with her parents (who made her out of snow) differs from all the side images in that it is set in winter. The drawings on the sides, meanwhile, are rich in the colors of spring, but it is with a bit of sadness that we realize the girl will pass on to the next world any day now. But we also know she will indeed exist in spirit (and maybe even come back next winter!) The box was done by the artist Lyudmila Gelisheva who recently had a work featured in the book "Russian Lacquer Miniatures: New Visions". It is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the top. it is signed on the top drawing with the name of hte artist, village and year. An exquisite little work!
