This older work by Fedoskino artist K. Kirillov shows Moscow's Red Square. From left to right, you see St. Basil's Cathedral, the Spassky Clock Tower, Lenin's Tomb, and the walls of the Kremlin. In the far distance on the horizon, the gray skyline of Moscow is visible, as well. The fact that there are no people, and that the clock shows 6:20 suggests that it is early morning. It looks to be another somber day for Moscovites under the rule of communism. The box is large and impressive, and the architecture is drawn with great skill. It is over 30 years old and has withstood the test of time pretty well. The lacquer has naturally thinned, revealing some brush strokes of the oil paint. There is one small 2 cm chip in the lacquer on Lenin's tomb, but it is very minor and hardly noticeable. The box is made out of high quality papier mache, has a hinge at the top, and sits on four small legs. Signed with the name of the artist, village and year. An excellent relic from the old USSR!
