This box, painted by Fedoskino artist I. Shabanova, shows a quiet landscape with a bridge over a small river. Not a soul is in sight. The leaves on the tree are starting to turn color and summer is coming to an end. (Note: Actually, the pictures of this box seem to over emphasize the yellows and browns. In person, it is a little lighter and more summery.) The work is very refined and the pale green color on the side and bottom makes for an easy transition into the landscape itself. There are two gold ornaments, one around the drawing and one decorating the sides. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the top. It is signed with the name of the artist and village.
