Polar bears of the north huddle together for comfort and warmth in this tender animal scene by Fedoskino artist Tipyakov. The youngest bear is in the center, and his adoring eyes are focused on one of his parents. Except for the slight nuances in color in the fur of the bears and background vegetation, the scene is monochromatic in nature. There are three simple line ornaments, one framing the drawing, and two more at the side, which are also in keeping with the austere habitat of the animals. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the top. The box lies flush on the table and has a red interior. It is signed with the name of the artist, title and year. Other works by this artist, D. Tipyakov, have been featured in the recent book "Russian Lacquer Miniatures: Palekh, Mstiora, Fedoskino, Kholui". Superb scene for animal lovers!
