Staryij Prud literally means "Old Pond" and for the box it could either be a general description of the scene, or an exact place somewhere in Russia (there are a number of place names like this). In any case, the scene is quite pretty and very tranquil. The crushed mother of pearl paint in both the sky and water give them a nice soft glow. There is a gold border along the top, and a couple along the sides. The box is made out of papier mache, has a red interior, and does not have a hinge. Signed with the name of the arist, and title.
