This scene, drawn in classic Palekh style, shows a group of country folk enjoying the sunny day, involved in several activities, enjoying each others' company. The young men to the left are trying to catch the big one, while the girls at the right pause in their chores to look. One of them even seems to be cheering them on. In between the two groups is a young maiden putting her hand out to a pair of swans, and a boy in a boat who is fishing, as well. Way off in the distance are two more boats with tiny fisherman that are barely visible from our vantage point. Animals are well represented in the composition, too. A black dog grins behind the fishermen, while a cat sits on a mound near the bottom of the drawing, and looks a little annoyed, as cats often do. Three white birds complete the tranquil ambiance of the scene as they float in the sky near the center.

The composition is a wonderfully interwoven arrangement of traditional Palekh elements, and the end result is an atmosphere of harmony and peaceful relaxation. The scene could well represent impressions the artist's youth spent in Palekh itself, as there is a beautiful river in that village, enjoyed by many.

The box is adorned on the top and on the sides with two neatly done gold ornaments. The gold accents on the drawing and the gold in the ornaments all have a nice shine to them, as one would expect from a high quality work from Palekh. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and has a hinge at the top. It stands on four small legs. The box is signed at the bottom of the drawing with the name of the artist and year it was done. Lovely work from a talented artist.
