The young Duke Stepanovich rides through a treacherous mountain pass towards the capitol. Despite the dangers lurking in the narrow crevasse, he continues his journey. Hungry birds swoop before him, intent on pecking him, while a dragon breathes fire at his horse's hooves. The craggy faces of stone giants scowl at the intruder, but he presses ever onward towards the city walls. The scene is nicely painted, with careful attention to detail. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (Gryaznov), and village. There is no hinge, and the interior is red lacquer.
