Lenin at Shushenskoe (1969)from Fedoskino by Aleksander KozlovDimensions: 1.13" x 1.25" x 1.50"(2.86 x 3.18 x 3.81 cm) Gallery Price: $ 495.00 Internet Price: $ 465.00 None currently available |
An aura of golden flames encircle Vladimir Lenin as he huddles next to a fire, feverishly writing by the flickering glow, during his exile to Shushenskoe in Siberia. The dramatic scarlet sky is blocked by a primitive thatched dwelling which casts its shadow on the revolutionary leader, calling to mind the massive bronze statues later erected in his honor. The sides of the box are adorned with tiny, bronzed warriors of the revolution, marching on the capital beneath crimson banners. The sunset glow bathes the soldiers into warm, bronze shadow, kissed with shimmering gold. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is unsigned. There is a bit of chipping to the black lacquer at the corners of the lid, but this does not appear to threaten the structural ntegrity of the box, nor diminish the beauty of the painting. There is no hinge, and the interior is red lacquer. The base of this piece is flush. The box was done by Aleksander Kozlov, a member of one of the most well known families in Fedoskino.
