Tsar Saltan smiles and promises to keep thoughts of his wife close to his heart as he leads his army to battle in a far off land. A foot soldier cannot help but smile at the Tsarina's hearty call of "Good Luck" to the troops. The scene is painting in a striking combination of bold jewel tones and warm pastels to create the distinctive light of dawn. Tiny details draw the eye, while the flowing style adds to the sense of motion and excitement. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed discreetly on the lid with the title, artist's name (N. Lavrenkova), and village. There is a hinge on the left, and the interior is red lacquer. The base of this piece is flush. Note: The line that you see in the top right portion of the closeup which looks like it might be a crack, is not, and appears to possibly be a small hair that was lacquered over.
