A pair of enchanted chickens made of snow float across a pale blue sky, carrying a golden cord to spirit little Kay off to the kingdom of the Snow Queen on the lid of this box by Margarita Pichugina. The frozen sovreign appears on the front of the box, bundled in snow robes and driving in an ice sleigh, both of which gleam with mother of pearl. A team of pure white horses draw the sleigh higher into the blizzard as The Snow queen glances backwards. Kay has unknowingly hitched his sled to the magical sleigh, and fear begins to grip him as he is spirited away from his village. Luckily, his best friend Gerda refuses to believe that Kay is lost to her, and searches far and wide. Her adventures and unlikely helpers are revealed on the final two sides. This box is made of high quality papier mache, and is signed on the side with the artist's name, village, and date of completion. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer. The base of this piece is curved. A four-sided gem by a top Fedoskino artist.
