The distinctive style and playful subject matter of Alla Kozlova's lacquer art has earned her recognition as one of Fedoskino's top artists. Her unique works are featured in several books on lacquer art, including "New Visions: Russian Lacquer Miniatures" and "Russian Lacquer Painting, 21st Century." Against a striking white lacquer background, and ivory skinned maiden carries a large basket of pillows, with three tabby cats on top. The striped fur of the cats are accented with the clever use of abalone inlays. Their keeper holds a beribboned wand to keep the cats' attention so they don't stray from the basket, but her pets have eyes only for their beloved mistress, crowding close to snuggle her face. The soft, shimmering colors of the scene echo the abalone and add sparkle. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the artist's name (Kozlova)and village. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer. The base of this piece is flush.
