Artist Profile - Svetlana Korotkikh
Born 1952 in Voronezh district, Korotkikh grew up at an orphanage near the city of Rostov. Graduated the Art School in Fedoskino where she is living now. Korotkikh devotes her life to miniature art. Fairy tales and lyrical pieces are her favorite themes. The artist creates her own original works but sometimes copies from other paintings for practice. Her passion is reading books. Sometimes she'll spend the entire night reading a book, helping to create the fantasy world of the wonderful images and characters that she paints. Korotkikh had infantile paralysis and survived several operations. Now she is walking on crutches. Because she can not easily move around without help (and public transportation in Russia for handicapped people is a nightmare) the artist is not as active in participating in exhibitions, etc., as she would like to be. She is widely known in the lacquer box world, however, and has gained a wonderful reputation among Fedoskino miniature artists. Her works have found many admirers in Russia and abroad. Svetlana is optimistic woman with great sense of humor and thirst for life. She is very sophisticated and absolutely charming. |
