Cinderella (2004)from Fedoskino by Andrei BorisovDimensions: 4.00" x 2.75" x 1.75"(10.00 x 6.50 x 4.00 cm) Gallery Price: $ 1395.00 Internet Price: $ 1295.00 None currently available |
This unusual work from Fedoskino fittingly bears the unusual theme of Cinderella. While familiar to most American children, the tale is not a widely used subject in lacquer art, although non traditional topics, especially fairy tales, are gaining popularity. Cinderella curtsies in thanks to her fairy godmother, who presents her with the famous slippers. The traditional Fedoskino style of realism is used with marvelous effect, giving us an incredibly believable scene. Cinderella appears to be getting pointers on moving in her elegant near clothing, and a soon to be enchanted mouse waits nervously in a bird cage. A deep blue sky is the perfect foil for The glittering tree bough overhead, which consists of a large piece of mother of pearl. Tiny gnarled branches are sculpted behind the bough. Sinuous tendrils of vine sprout from the lacquer, undulating across the sides in a trail of fluttering, three dimensional leaves before coming to rest on the pale golden orb of a fat pumpkin. Diagonally across from the protruding bough, together they make a magnificent frame to the piece. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name, village, and date of completion. There is a hinge on the left, and the interior is red lacquer. The base of this piece is flush. A truly unique fairy tale work by Andrei Borisov.--BOX1153
