The evil sorcerer, in the form of a raven, lies slain at the feet of Prince Gvidon. The swan it was chasing reveals itself to be an enchanted princess, and commences building Ivan a magnificent citadel in return for saving her life. Thick clouds of magic cloak the tiny island he and his mother have called home since being banished because of a cruel trick. Gvidon's mother, still in shock that her beloved husband would order her exiled, seems to not notice the commotion of magical construction behind her. She pines at water's edge, lost in memories of happier times. The scene is very well painted in deep, soothing tones, with a strong sense of movement. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the title, artist's name (Brezginos), and village. There is a hinge on the left, and the interior is red lacquer. It stands on four round legs. A touching version of a favorite tale.
