The houses of the nearby village, the trees covered in snow, the faraway forest, and the violet grey sky form the background of the painting. In the forefront of the painting are two brown tree branches, wavering in the wind. The sides of the box are covered with continued winter landscape. With the colorful figures of the children and the horses standing out vividly against the monotonous winter scenery, this work gives one a feeling of comfort and joy.

The box is made from papier mache, sits flat with no legs, and does not have a hinge. The interior is red, and the bottom of the box is signed with the artist's name. Lacquer is in very good condition.
