A young couple sits on a ridge overlooking a tiny village. He serenades her with a flute, and looks up, amused, as a bird perched on a nearby branch joins in. She smiles at the unexpected duet, and toys with a tiny flower. The bright colors and shimmering gold add to the appearance of a bright afternoon. The fine golden accents are much nicer looking in person; unfortunately, it is difficult to effectively capture their subtleties in a photograph. This box is made of high quality papier mache and is signed on the lid with the artist's name (Populova), village, and date of completion. There is a hinge at the top, and the interior is red lacquer.It stands on a curving lip, and bears an unusual mark on its base.
