This rectangular box, done in 1982 by Palekh artist Valerii Bokarev, focuses on the island of Prince Gvidon. A total of 35 people, and a squirrel, are drawn by Bokarev, each one very detailed in a tradition manner. Prince Gvidon and his bride (the Swan Princess) are pictured in bright clothing to the left, while the Tsar and Tsarina are shown in the center. The scheming sisters are drawn behind them. Although they were responsible for the exile of Gvidon and the Tsarina here, in the end they are forgiven. In this scene, there is a lot of excitement with the arrival of the Tsar and his reunion with his loved ones. But for the squirrel it's business as usual, as he cracks open on nut after another.

The scene is done beautifully throughout with delicate lines and vivid colors. The gold and silver ornament on the top and on the sides is finely crafted, as well, accentuating the master skill of this artist. The box is made out of high quality papier mache and lies flat on the table without legs. It is signed with the name of the artist, village, year and item number. Valerij Konstantinovich Bokarev was born in 1954 and has participated in exhibitions since 1977, and his work has also been shown in several museums, including the one in Palekh.

We noticed that the pictures of this box have a slightly reddish tint. We will retake the pictures as soon as possible.
